Flying Monkey

Along with educational supplies and toys, we have tried to stock our store with some new novelty toys that are "just for fun". Here is one that we just had to reorder because it has flown off the shelves!

How, you may ask, does it fly?

While holding on to the hands of the monkey with your two fingers, you pull back on the tail and let it go. It sails up into the air while making a very LOUD screaming noise. Kids seem to love these... always testing them out in the store.

Well... get ready everyone... a new shipment of them will be arriving soon at The Pointy Pencil.

Slippery Spheres

Here is an awesome scientific toy from Dune Craft... available now at The Pointy Pencil for only $2.99! My daughter got this for her 1/2 birthday today.

First, she got a bowl, and soaked them in 3/4 cup water.

After about 1 hour, they grew and became very slippery and bouncy!

They were a lot of fun! We let the kids play with them on our wood floor, sometimes they even explode... it was great!

Now, she is letting them dry out and shrink back to their original size. When sealed in a plastic bag, they stay good and ready for whenever she wants to play with them again!

Magnetic Learning Systems

We are really excited to start carrying the Peter Parker Magnetic Learning System... an educator's dream come true! Now, each student can have their own magnetic wipe-off board with a set of markers and magnet tiles. There are larger magnets for teacher demonstration and smaller magnets for independent work.

Magnets are available in letters (red vowels, blue consonants), numbers, handwriting, shapes/colors, music, geography, sign language, Spanish, math, foods, photo nouns,... the list is endless!

The students can use the tri-fold (shown below), which can easily fold up and be stored in their desk. The dry-erase markers and magnetic tiles can be stored in pouches (for individual use) or color-coded cups (for classroom use).

Come in to The Pointy Pencil and check out the endless possibilities that are available with this learning system (including desk-sized easels and "Better-Than-A-Cookie-Sheet" boards). Think of the possibilities for large classroom use, homeschoolers, churches (Bible memorization?) and travelling in the car!

Decorate-Your-Own Dolls

My 7-year-old daughter had her tonsils out today. A friend of ours got her this Melissa and Doug set from The Pointy Pencil.

Decorate-Your-Own Wooden Fashion Dolls

The surgery went well and she LOVES her new set. She is very into arts and crafts, and this is perfect for her as she needs to rest and do quiet, calm activities. Thanks, Becky, she loves it!!!

Wedgits

A friend of mine told me that she came to our store, The Pointy Pencil, and bought this game/building toy (Wedgits). Her daughter's third grade teacher told her that the kids in her class loved it! Now that her 9-year-old owns it, she plays with it for hours at a time. A big hit for those long summer days when the kids aren't in school!

Don't they look like fun? There are even design books to inspire those little minds!

Biblical Garden

Did anyone notice the article about biblical gardens in the Kokomo Tribune on Saturday, June 14, Create Your Own Eden? It reminded me of the new science gardens (terrariums) we are getting in at The Pointy Pencil. (Notice 6/5/08 post.) Call The Pointy Pencil to reserve yours today (765)452-2341.

Summer Educational Activities

While I was sitting at my daughter's softball game tonight, a friend asked if our store carried activity books for kids to do at home. She was concerned about her daughter's mind staying sharp during the summer. Well... as a matter of fact, we do carry them!

Not only does our store, The Pointy Pencil, have a good selection, but our website does as well. For those of you who find it difficult to get out, here are just a few of the activities we have available online at http://www.thepointypencil.com/. Jane... hope this helps!

Here is an activity book to specifically target your child's grammar skills, available in whatever elementary grade level you need. High-interest activities allow students to actually have fun while they're learning grammar!

I couldn't resist showing you this next one... a game for children to play while they're learning to identify parts of a sentence. My kids would go for this! I'm not even sure they would realize they were reviewing their schoolwork!

Each player has a recipe (sentence) to make. Move around the kitchen (gameboard) identifying the correct parts of speech cards (ingredients) and start making your sentence. The first person to complete their recipe wins!

These are only 2 examples. Check out our website or store, and find exactly what YOUR child needs for the summer!

Scientific Creations

Coming soon to The Pointy Pencil... exotic plants that kids can grow. At the SMART convention last weekend, Joel, Andrea, and Becky discovered these fast-growing gardens. A few examples..

This kit includes meat-eating plants... even the infamous Venus Fly Trap! Now your kids can watch harmless seeds grow into bug-eating monsters!

Create your own ancient biblical landscape with plants used and talked about in the Bible. This would be an exciting addition to any class at church!

Wow... kids can grow their own bananas from seed. Unreal! These plants will sprout in a matter of weeks and grow more than a foot in the first two months! The Banana Farm comes complete with everything needed for an island scene, including a decorative monkey and banana tree seeds.

After spending time with the company rep on Saturday, Joel was impressed with their extensive testing methods that ensure each kit comes with viable seeds (these seeds WILL sprout fast enough to satisfy eager expectations).
