Repositionable Letters

I teach the Kindergarten and First Grade Sunday School class
at my church.

A group of us painted a world map on the wall.

To complete the map,
I added a Bible verse to the top of the mural with
repositionable letters from The Pointy Pencil.

They were so easy to work with...
if I didn't like where I stuck them,
I peeled them off, and tried again!

Just the right amount of adhesive,
not too sticky,
but tight enough to hold to the wall.

Rush Hour... putting little cars into a "traffic jam", and then getting your red car out!

This game was instantly a hit with my 10-yr-old. She got busy right away trying to free up traffic... continually trying more and more difficult patterns. Then I tried it and got hooked!!!

(Notice the traffic is set up according to the card. Now, the object is to get the shiny red car out the exit on the right without lifting up any vehicles!)

According to the box, it is for ages 8+. But... if you have a determined little 6-yr-old at home (like I do) then this game is still appropriate. She can solve the beginner level cards all by herself.

Quiddler IS Fun!!

I know,I know... I already did a blog post about the game Quiddler.
(See Tues., Aug. 19, 2008 post.)

That was when we had never played it before.

I played it tonight with 2 of my girls (ages 6 and 8) and we loved it!!! They were having a great time getting letters and making words out of them.

This really IS a game for all ages... sometimes the smaller words actually earn you more points (there is a bonus for making the MOST words... no matter how small).

So... in the end, our scores were pretty close, but I did end up winning. In the score card below, "M" is for Mom. (Okay, I know I should've let one of them win, but I was having so much fun... I started getting competitive!!!)

I had an advertising exec. from the Kokomo Tribune at my home today.

She told me that her favorite game from the Pointy Pencil is Quiddler. Someone in her family introduced her to the game. She had so much fun playing, she rushed out to buy it for herself. Hello again... we are home from our vacation to Charleston, South Carolina, our favorite city in America!

We had an amazing time at the beach, the market, and all those wonderful deep-south restaurants... even though we were there for a sad occasion.

A dear friend of our family passed away and we were there to attend her funeral. She was young, age 33, and had a seven-year-old son.

We knew we would see her son, so we brought him four different scientific presents from The Pointy Pencil. He told us after he opened them all and played with them that his favorite one was the GobbledyGoop (only $2.99).

I think my favorite thing about our store is that I always find something interesting, something out of the ordinary, to give as a gift. He had never seen these science toys before... neither had his family.

Baseball/Softball Decorations

My 7-year-old daughter is in Mini 4-H this year. One of the categories she chose to participate in is "Sports".

She needs 5 pictures of herself playing any sport displayed on a poster. This will be on display at the Howard County Fair next week.

She chose to display pictures of herself playing softball (which she LOVES). So here are some decorations we're going to use for her softball poster. We got them from The Pointy Pencil (of course).

Flying Monkey

Along with educational supplies and toys, we have tried to stock our store with some new novelty toys that are "just for fun". Here is one that we just had to reorder because it has flown off the shelves!

How, you may ask, does it fly?

While holding on to the hands of the monkey with your two fingers, you pull back on the tail and let it go. It sails up into the air while making a very LOUD screaming noise. Kids seem to love these... always testing them out in the store.

Slippery Spheres

Here is an awesome scientific toy from Dune Craft... available now at The Pointy Pencil for only $2.99! My daughter got this for her 1/2 birthday today.

First, she got a bowl, and soaked them in 3/4 cup water.

After about 1 hour, they grew and became very slippery and bouncy!

They were a lot of fun! We let the kids play with them on our wood floor, sometimes they even explode... it was great!

Now, she is letting them dry out and shrink back to their original size. When sealed in a plastic bag, they stay good and ready for whenever she wants to play with them again!

Magnetic Learning Systems

We are really excited to start carrying the Peter Parker Magnetic Learning System... an educator's dream come true! Now, each student can have their own magnetic wipe-off board with a set of markers and magnet tiles. There are larger magnets for teacher demonstration and smaller magnets for independent work.

Magnets are available in letters (red vowels, blue consonants), numbers, handwriting, shapes/colors, music, geography, sign language, Spanish, math, foods, photo nouns,... the list is endless!

The students can use the tri-fold (shown below), which can easily fold up and be stored in their desk. The dry-erase markers and magnetic tiles can be stored in pouches (for individual use) or color-coded cups (for classroom use).

Decorate-Your-Own Dolls

My 7-year-old daughter had her tonsils out today. A friend of ours got her this Melissa and Doug set from The Pointy Pencil.

The surgery went well and she LOVES her new set. She is very into arts and crafts, and this is perfect for her as she needs to rest and do quiet, calm activities. Thanks, Becky, she loves it!!!

A friend of mine told me that she came to our store, The Pointy Pencil, and bought this game/building toy (Wedgits). Her daughter's third grade teacher told her that the kids in her class loved it! Now that her 9-year-old owns it, she plays with it for hours at a time. A big hit for those long summer days when the kids aren't in school!

Don't they look like fun? There are even design books to inspire those little minds!
